 Fernandeli on 8th St. Great little Deli with cozy dining room in the back. Great selection of breads and fillings in the $6-$7 range. They also have daily specials, sides, and sometimes desserts. Meats and salads by the pound, and catering, executive box lunches, and more. Free WI-FI is an absolute plus to check your emails and check SearchAmelia on what to do after breakfast or lunch. I went to Fernandeli’s today because I was in the mood for a great specialty sandwich. I decided to dine in, which was a mistake because my feet stuck to the floor with each step and my elbows stuck to the surface of the table I dined at. The walls appeared dingy, and the windows and pictures on the walls looked like they have never seen a Windex bottle. Come on, Fernandeli’s, invest in a mop…and use it. I was extremely dissatisfied by the uncleanliness of the place. It makes me wonder how clean their cooking areas are. Anyway, when my sandwich came out it was as good or better than I expected. While Fernandeli’s does have the best sandwiches on the island, I suggest you order “take out only” until the place gets a good cleaning.
Have you ever actually been there? I mean really? “I was in the mood for a specialty sandwich” You don’t even know what sandwiches are on the menu, or which one you were in the mood for? “It makes me wonder how clean the cooking areas are.” you can see the whole kitchen. it’s not like other restaurants that you can’t see. Most of the time I do get take out. I’ve never seen more than 2 people working there, & they do get very busy at lunch. I’ve noticed that the fountain soda machine spurts a little. So maybe if you did actually go there you got a soda and your feet got some on your shoes and made your feet stick a little. by far no reason to trash this place. you even said yourself that they have the best sandwiches & I think we need to do everything we can to keep them around. I’m tired of all my favorite places going out of business. They do a good job & need to be helped more than hurt. You do realize that people go online & check things out. I would hate to think that someone who had never been to fernandeli would read your post & never go because of what some hack said.
Ate there today. They have incredible Gyro’s. Just what this island needs.
Can’t believe I found a place that both I and the kids like. This is the only place that the kids prefer over McDonalds. If you have kids you know what I mean. The Tuscan chicken panini is soooo good.
Definitely the best sandwiches on the island. Always consistent quality, and always big enough to have as a second meal later. 5 stars all around.
Always great food. Sometimes can get a little backed up during the lunch hour, but well worth the wait.
Any place that will serve a GIANT salad as good as the Bacon & Bleu salad for less than $5 is definitely a place that I will go to often.

Man Craig where did you learn to make these sandwiches? Definitely the best Reuben this side of New York. Absolutely loved it. And it filled up a big 6ft3 guy. People get your discount coupon for Fernandeli on SearchAmelia and take your wife for a great late Sat. afternoon lunch. And the price…very affordable
Just got back from FernanDeli and the Turkey Salad sandwich was unbelievable. I am in piggy heaven. I was only able to eat half, so brought the other half home. Super generous portions. I think my husband is eye-balling the other half. LOL

Would not normally put this out there but most children will not be reading this; there were three children who came in, who had been out playing and were thirsty and asked for water and the owner was super cool and gave them cups, ice and water. I thought this was worth mentioning. Shows caring and character.

Wonderful place to have a quick lunch. Brocolli Cheese soup was great and so was the service. Enjoyed meeting the owner! Try it, you’ll like it.
Best sandwiches anywhere, & soups too
What a great find on Amelia Island! The prime rib sandwich was the best I’ve ever had, anywhere. And the serving was generous, had to take the other half home. The service was excellent, and the cost reasonable. I’ll be back for sure! Thanks! DEB
If you have not tried the Bacon ‘n Blue salad, you are missing out. I decided to try this rather than my usual Gyro sandwhich (yummy!) I could smell the bacon cooking after I ordered. How fresh is that? And the prices are great. I think our GNO (girls nite out)group should start meeting here.
Read the article today & had to try it. Hands down the best Italian sub ever. Took a little while to get because they were so busy, but worth the wait. When the food is that good, it doesn’t matter how long it takes.
The owners are great people and the food is excellent. Looking forward to trying some of the new menu items!!!

Had a sandwich there today. Definitely not my first time, but just have to say that I thought their sandwiches were big before, now they are huge but delicious as usual,

I just had my first lunch and Fernandeli. The soup was very good and my sandwich came out just as ordered and tasted great. I enjoyed meeting the owner and appreciated his attention and service. I’ll be back!
First time at Fernandeli’s. Wanted something healthy so I ordered the Tuscan Portabella Wrap. It was excellent, comes with a pickle and olive. Also, has a good pesto sauce. The sandwich and a drink cost me $8.56 after tax. Service was quick and friendly. If you’re looking for an inexpensive and healthy lunch in a quaint and cozy establishment, I’d recommend Fernandeli’s.
After these 3 great comments, I was disappointed in my meal here. I went on Friday for the prime rib sandwich; the bread was spongy with no character; the prime rib was well done and thinly sliced; the au jus was great, though. I chose to sit outside, which was a mistake, because of squealing brakes on the many log trucks that are in the area, and the trash was picked up by another noisy truck right next to the only table. If I go again, I will order something that is served on their home baked bread to see if it’s any better.
I will say that the service was very nice.
First off, I want to thank you for coming in and trying us out. I certainly apologize if you were dissatisfied in any way with the food that you received. I also appreciate your candid opinion and review, however I believe that it would have been more beneficial to you as the consumer and to me as the business owner if you would have let me know of any problems with the food that you may have had. If I am made aware of the problem, I can fix it. If you wait until after you leave without telling me, then there is nothing that I can do. I see that you still plan on coming in again & I look forward to it.
I have eaten at Fernandeli many times and everything my family and I have tried has been wonderful. My Daughter and I went on Saturday while we were at the Going Green Expo to bring back sandwiches for the people that were with us working. Craig made my wife a chicken club sandwich that he did not even have on the menu because that is what she wanted. I personally would not sit outside unless I wanted to deal with the traffic and noise associated with 8th street. I like Fernandeli and will continue to patronize this fine establishment. I hope jinjer gives them another chance.
Amazing sandwiches! They are so friendly and talk to you while you wait for your food to be made:) Recommended to anyone who likes good food!
OK, let me just say these are some of the best sandwiches I have had anywhere. I think this is a winner and you should visit them, you will be glad that you did.
Some of the greatest sandwiches on the island. The meats are excellent and the service is great. Love the Prime rib sandwich on fridays.
